Biomedical Engineering

Overview

Biomedical Engineering is a interdisciplinary field that combines principles from engineering, biology, and medicine to improve human health. It encompasses a wide range of topics.

The curriculum of a Biomedical Engineering program includes a combination of engineering, biology, and medical courses, as well as laboratory experience and hands-on projects. Students also have opportunities to participate in research projects, both individually and as part of a team

Objectives

The objective of a Biomedical Engineering course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of engineering as applied to the field of medicine and biology. This includes learning about the design, development, and testing of medical devices and technologies, as well as the application of engineering principles to biological systems and medical problems.

Students in a Biomedical Engineering course will also learn about the ethical, legal, and social issues involved in the development and use of medical technologies, as well as the integration of these technologies into the healthcare system. They will gain an understanding of the biological and physiological principles that underlie human anatomy and physiology, and will learn about the use of mathematical models and computational methods to simulate and analyze biological systems.

The ultimate goal of a Biomedical Engineering course is to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as professional biomedical engineers, solving complex medical problems and improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities through the development of new and innovative medical technologies.

Enrty Requirement

A minimum of 5 credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry and any subject, at not more than two sitting (2) at the SSCE, WAEC or its equivalent.

Programme Duration

The duration for the Programme is 3 years. Each Year having First and Second Semester

Job Opportunities

Graduates of Biomedical Engineering programs can find careers in a variety of industries, including medical device manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, research and development, and biotechnology. They can also pursue careers in academia, government agencies, and hospitals, where they can apply their knowledge and skills to advance medical research and improve patient care.
