Ear, Nose And Throat Technician (ENT)
Overview
An Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Technician, also known as an Otolaryngology Technician, is a healthcare professional who works alongside an ENT physician to provide specialized care for patients with disorders related to the ear, nose and throat. The role of an ENT Technician involves performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as audiometry, hearing aid fittings, and assisting with surgeries
The curriculum also includes practical experience and clinical rotations to provide students with hands-on training in a healthcare setting.
Objectives
The curriculum or objectives of an ENT Technician course covers a variety of topics, including:
- Anatomy and Physiology: the structure and function of the ear, nose and throat, as well as related organs and systems.
- Patient Care: communication and interaction with patients, patient assessment, and patient preparation for procedures and surgeries.
- Diagnostic Procedures: audiology, hearing tests, and other diagnostic procedures used to identify disorders and abnormalities in the ear, nose and throat.
- Treatment Procedures: the use of medical devices and equipment, such as hearing aids and nasal CPAP, to manage and treat disorders.
- Surgical Procedures: assisting with surgical procedures, including pre-operative and post-operative care.
- Medical Record Keeping: documentation of patient medical history, treatments, and procedures.
- Infection Control: techniques and procedures for maintaining a sterile and safe environment for patients and healthcare workers.
Enrty Requirement
A minimum of 5 credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry and any subject, at not more than two sitting (2) at the SSCE, WAEC or its equivalent.
Programme Duration
The duration for the Programme is 3 years. Each Year having First and Second Semester
Job Opportunities
Upon completion of the program, graduates can work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and private practices, where they can assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with ear, nose, and throat disorders. Graduates may also choose to specialize in a particular area of ENT, such as audiology or hearing aid fitting, or pursue further education in a related field such as nursing or physician assistant studies.
