Health Care Management

Overview

Health Care Management is a field of study that focuses on the business and administrative aspects of healthcare delivery. The goal of this course is to prepare students to become effective managers and leaders in healthcare organizations, including hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities.

The curriculum also includes practical experience and internships to provide students with hands-on training in a healthcare setting.

Objectives

The curriculum of a Health Care Management program covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Health care systems and policies: understanding the structure and organization of healthcare systems, as well as the policies that govern them.
  • Financial management: managing budgets, analyzing financial statements, and ensuring the financial stability of healthcare organizations.
  • Human resources management: recruiting, training, and managing healthcare staff, as well as ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Quality improvement: ensuring the quality and safety of healthcare services and outcomes, as well as implementing quality improvement initiatives.
  • Strategic planning: developing and implementing strategies to meet the changing needs of healthcare organizations and their patients.
  • Information management: using technology and data to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare operations, as well as ensuring the security and privacy of patient information.
  • Legal and ethical issues: understanding the legal and ethical issues that arise in healthcare management, including patient privacy, informed consent, and medical malpractice.

Enrty Requirement

A minimum of 5 credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry and any subject, at not more than two sitting (2) at the SSCE, WAEC or its equivalent.

Programme Duration

The duration for the Programme is 3 years. Each Year having First and Second Semester

Job Opportunities

Upon completion of the program, graduates can find careers in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, and government agencies. They can also work in consulting firms or start their own healthcare businesses. Graduates of Health Care Management programs may also pursue further education in related fields, such as healthcare policy, public health, or business administration.
