Overview
Social work and psychosocial rehabilitation is a field that focuses on supporting individuals who are experiencing various social, emotional, and mental health challenges. This field involves working with individuals, families, and communities to promote well-being, social justice, and human rights. Social workers and psychosocial rehabilitation professionals help people overcome challenges such as poverty, addiction, mental illness, and disability.
Objectives
The curriculum of a Social Work and Psychosocial Rehabilitation program covers a wide range of topics, including:
Social Work Theory and Practice: understanding the principles of social work, including social justice, human rights, and empowerment, as well as applying them to practice.
Mental Health and Illness: understanding the causes and effects of mental illness, as well as treatment options and best practices for recovery.
Group Work and Counseling: developing skills in group facilitation, counseling, and crisis intervention.
Rehabilitation and Recovery: understanding the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation, including strengths-based assessment, goal setting, and the promotion of recovery and well-being.
Policy and Advocacy: understanding the social, economic, and political factors that impact social work and psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as advocating for social change.
Field Practicum: practical experience in a variety of social work and psychosocial rehabilitation settings under the supervision of experienced professionals.
Enrty Requirement
A minimum of 5 credits passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry and any subject, at not more than two sitting (2) at the SSCE, WAEC or its equivalent.
Programme Duration
The duration for the Programme is 3 years. Each Year having First and Second Semester
Job Opportunities
Upon completion of the program, graduates can find careers in a variety of settings, including hospitals, mental health clinics, social service agencies, and community organizations. They can also work in private practice or in research and education. Graduates of Social Work and Psychosocial Rehabilitation programs may also pursue further education in related fields such as counseling, psychology, or social policy.
